After carefully reading through the rules and organization, please direct yourself to our Welcome thread and give us a shout out there to introduce yourself! :D
Welcome to Beyond Skies, a forum dedicated to role playing and the wonders of imagination. The site is currently early on in development so, please, bear with us. In the mean time, like every forum with good grounds, there are rules to uphold. I and the rest of the staff ask that you kindly go over them before your interaction in the community.
General Conduct:
. Ignorance is no excuse.
. Beyond Skies has all intention to be a friendly community. Be kind. If there are any concerns with an issue regarding this, please contact any of the staff members so that we may review the situation.
. NO ADULT CONTENT...And let's go ahead and add in keep cursing to a minimum. I think we can handle this, right?
. Follow forum organization. No spamming. If you absolutely must spam, post it in the dedicated Spam Board.
. Keep chat speak to a minimum.
. VERY IMPORTANT: This site's roleplays are Semi-literate and above. After making an account and showing interest you will be required to take a test so that I and the other staff may review you roleplaying style. You are expected to try your best with your grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and all around English skills. Be prepared for some critiquing. No one is perfect, but if your example is not fit to our preferred standards then you will not be accepted into our roleplays. You are welcome to keep you account in that case, and then you may come back when you feel that you are ready.
Roleplaying:
(That's right. Roleplaying has rules too.)
. Try your best. Beyond Skies prefers members being as literate as they possibly can. At least attempt to keep your grammar, spelling, and sentence variation in line. You do not have to be perfect, and perhaps you will find your language skills improving during your time here.
. Please, no Gary or Mary Sue characters. We want original characters on here that are believable and that will have their strengths and weaknesses, not unstoppable gods that will end up pestering the rest of us poor souls. :C
. Try to post at least five sentences per reply (minimum of 5 sentences, in other words).
. While roleplaying you may NOT use chat speak.
. Roleplaying is like acting. Don't take things personally.
. The staff and I prefer that most roleplays start from original, member made plots, however, fan fiction is permitted.
. Use OOC when speaking commonly within role plays.
. Try to stay true to your plots. No godmoding.
. Follow the criteria of character bios, and other foundations requested by the member(s) starting/monitoring a roleplay.
. No power playing! Do not take any control over other members' characters, unless given rights by them specifically.
This can be as simple as, say, perhaps you are taking on the role of your character Bob. Jim is playing his character Steve. Jim has not replied for Steve for a while, but Steve needs to walk out of the doorway for Bob to make it to the next room in his apartment. You may not make a post such as:
NO! In a case like this, with the risk of the RP dying off, you must try to contact your friend, and request that they reply, or, you may make a post on your action such as:
As long as you believe this is in your character's nature, that is legitimate. If you do not believe it is in your responsibility to do such a thing, and a player will not respond to move the plot along, contact a staff member to observe the situation. If the pause persists you will be given permission to work around the forgotten character to save your RP if it is possible.
. Here is a place where RPs are less serious, and become exceptions to these rules: Random
Some basic roleplaying terms to understand:
. RP - Roleplay
. OOC - Out of character, signaled by double parentheses ((Like this)).
. Godmoding - taking excessive control over your character(s), other characters, and the plot
. Powerplaying - taking control of other characters that you are not playing
. CBC - Character-by-character posting. Actions are handled in separate posts for each character, even when a member is playing multiple characters
. Grouping - Multiple characters being played by a member at a single time can be grouped into a single post for convenience and for a more storybook like affect
Here's the Welcome Message thread again.
Thanks for reading! Happy imagining! :D
