Please try to read all of this. xD
If not, read the last part, at least. There's something important that you need to respond to.
A rush of colors, cool to warm, steaming hot, and then ice cold hit you in the dark. The zipping sparks bounce from wall to wall on the air of your first breath. Through the struggle you fall into a cloud, an intense white drowning out the chaos. Your stomach drops for what seems years. You still cannot see, but then you begin to float. The steam clears, as the stars swirl past your head. They grace through your hands, soft bubbles to the touch as they drift over you.
In your sight a vibrant blue flame flickers. A vast sky-room opens up. Now you realize that you are in control. Yes, you are moving forward, and you can see a fountain? Stepping over the pools of crystal sweet water. Follow them to their source at the center, where those figures wait. At your side a white shadow sheds away, but you hadn’t even noticed. It is a young man, holding onto your arm, and now you see. You are soaked. It must have been the clouds. Clouds are made of water vapor, and there are streams around you.
He stumbles over in the glow of the large floating orb, it’s colors calmly fluctuating across his back where he heaves in a puddle. “Lloyd!” a young woman’s voice calls out from somewhere. In the sunlight above your head her shade protects your eyes from blinding rays. There is the sound of fluttering feathers, as bright flicks of blue sparkle across her copper wings, so streamline. But how is this possible? She kneels at the man’s side. “Are you all right?!” does she even care about you?
“Yes, yes…” the man coughs. He is lying on his back now, and shivering, but he smiles. “Someone else! You’ve done it!” His friend looks up with her sky-blue gaze, lighter than the ocean in his deep irises. Her grin is confident, and pleased by your existence. “How are you doing?” but at first you ignore her question. This man has a tail, you’ve just noticed. You watch him sigh, spitting out a small geyser of water, and then he sits up.
Behind all of you, in the light of the orb, and the portal drains away. You catch a last glimpse of it as it fades into shreds of the fluff, unknown worlds gone along with. “Thank goodness you’re both OK.” The girl’s laugh is hearty. “Goodness, it’s been a while since we’ve had someone new, but Lloyd did it! It’s tough, you know!” she pat’s the merman’s back, and stands onto the soles of her converse with a yawn. Her wings stretch out wide, releasing some shimmering dust. What else is shining here? Even the man’s scales? It’s beautiful, but where in the world are you? Who are you?
“Mmm, mind us asking who you are? We’ll need to know your name if you’re going to join the group.” The girl tilts her head in an innocent way. She offers her hand to Lloyd as he transforms to stand on his shoes. A cheerful and humble pink covers his face for her close presence. “Well, we might as well introduce ourselves first, since we dragged you here!” the girl laughs again as Lloyd wipes off his knees. “I’m Ellie.” She shakes your hand. “This is Lloyd.” And she motions to the boy. “Hello.” He nods politely as he adjusts his tie, still a bit embarrassed. “forever alone if I caused you any trouble.” His laugh is nervous. “We’re best friends, and I suppose you could say we are senior residents here…”
Ellie scratches her head, and looks up for something in the sun. “What would you say, Lloyd?” “Goodness, I can’t say, Ellie.” Lloyd shrugs. “It feels like it’s been…forever. We try and celebrate things here, but we can’t really tell time, so it’s hard to keep things annual, and well…hmm.” Ellie rubs her chin in serious thought. “It’s like time doesn’t exist.” she suddenly widens her eyes. “Let’s just say we know how stuff works.” and then she smiles again with joy. “There’s so much to do, but we always enjoy having new people. Even though it’s been so long, we are always learning, and you can’t ever break your naivety here.” As she speaks a warm feeling crawls over your body, as if a hairdryer had been pointed at you, or you had just tumbled out of a dryer.
“Ha! You seem surprised!” Ellie chuckles at you. “Thought you might not want to be walking around in those wet clothes anymore. I called up a little breeze.” She winks. Lloyd is also dry, and the hug ebbs away. “Everyone has powers here, if you were wondering…”
“Oh! But!” she jumps in excitement. “Well…” and calms some to think. “It’s all really neat, but it takes practice to get better. You may or ay not like the variety.” She shrugs. “You will…have to take a test. Ellie, don’t forget.” Lloyd bumps his elbow into her side. “Right-.” Her eyes go back to yours. What’s she skeptical about? Then again, you did just meet. “No one starts out perfect, but if you aren’t strong enough, you may be lost before you can actually improve.” A look of worry comes over her, but her voice is still gentle. They are about to say some important things. You can tell.
“Oh, for sure.” Lloyd agrees with a sure nod. “For your own good we’re gonna have to test you.” Ellie even agrees with herself. “If you pass then you’re sure to fit in with the community.” Her friend licks his lips and smiles. “Yeah, but wait! Pause a moment!” she interrupts. “Wait? Oh, yes!” Lloyd blinks. More important stuff…
“We don’t even know what kind of human you are!” they nod at each other. “Before you take the test, could we ask what sort of human you are?” he peers at you shyly from behind his glasses. “This is just a base. When you go out into other worlds you don’t have to stay the same, but when you come back you are one of us.” Ellie directs another sly wink at you.
“Would you mind telling us? You can let us know by entering your variation of the species here.” A flame gathers in Lloyd’s palm, and a holographic map forms. “You must be some variation of human, maybe just as you appear now.” He points to the title under your newly created profile as he explains. “Or maybe there’s something you aren’t telling us yet.” You are surprised to see a sly gin on his face as well. “You’re either like me, or him.” Ellie gives you a quick touch to the shoulder. “Here, at least.” She reiterates. “Maybe in another world you are a dog, or a dragon, or a vampire, or something, but we don’t know that yet.”
“Let’s get this titling over with quick, and then I can lead you through testing, since I’m the main proctor.” Lloyd passes the flame over to you. “Uh, hmm…” he rubs his chin. “I’ll let you know that we handle all registration through a single domain. If you have questions, you can go to the Help Hut…” you see where he points, a kiosk in the distance. “Find yourself a staff member, or just go ahead and ask one of us under that main domain.” “That’s what we prefer. Our little group is Kaethe.” “Actually, yes, send us your answer on this in a message.” He taps your blank title again.
“Remember, you have three choices.” Lloyd nods yet again. “Yep. And if you don’t choose in time you’ll be stuck like you are.” Ellie’s face is blank now. “Uh, moving back, anyway, let’s find out if you can even stay.” But Lloyd can’t hide his laugh. “I’ll catch you guys later. I’ve gotta go file some stuff. Let me know if you need anything!” Without another word Ellie leaps into the air and flies off. How much more sudden could that have been? You are left alone with the “merman”.
“It’s like that here.” His smirk lets you know that he can see the look on your face. “Now, I’ll say I hope you can pass this test. If not, no worries, but it isn’t too difficult if you enjoy using your imagination.” And he shakes your hand. “Lloyd Oliver Kaethe.” This is his formal introduction. Now that Ellie is gone he seems less tense. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, er…” but he hasn’t learned your name yet. “Never mind. Follow me, please.”
At least read this last part!
